Board Workshops

Each organization is different and may require unique training for their situation. Let us understand your goals and find the solution that best fits the needs of your organization. The workshops below can provide a sense of the kids of training and workshops we can provide.

New Board Member Training/Orientation:

One-half-day session

It is a great benefit for board members to be trained by someone who has experience in explaining the key concepts and duties of Policy Governance. Gaining new board members should not be a reason to loose board momentum. Excellent, concise training ensures continuity and the quality of board leadership.

Board Laboratory:

One-half day session

For many years now, organizations have run simulations in order to develop their decision making abilities in real-world situations. Boards can benefit from the same exercises, practicing the challenges that often face board members. These simulations can lead to deeper understandings of Policy Governance and dramatically improve the quality of decisions boards make.

Staff Enhancer:

One-half day session

Policy Governance lays the foundation for an empowered and yet accountable staff. Providing tailored training enables the staff to use their authority to the benefit of the organization as well as understand their role in accountability.

Ownership Linkage Workshop

The primary role of a board is to ensure organizational performance on behalf of the ownership. In order to fulfill this role, the board must take discrete, affirmative steps to identify who the owners are and to understand their desires. This workshop explores various methods for linking to the owners and how this information can be used in board planning.

Oversight/Compliance Support

The board is ultimately accountable for the performance of the organization which must produce the desired ends using acceptable means. This is accomplished through a system of board policies that are monitored through a series of compliance reports. By refining the purpose and expectations of the compliance reports, the executive is able to provide only the relevant data and interpretations that the board needs for an efficient monitoring and oversight.

Mission Ends

Half to full-day session

This workshop helps organizations focus their organization on its purpose by updating the concept and value of an organizational mission. Creating organizational “ends” allows the board to identify the benefit the organization brings to the world in a way that can be easily measured and monitored. By focusing on the needs of the owners and the outcomes that the organization will produce, the board better articulates the priorities of the organization.
